Título
Association between chronotype, central blood pressure and arterial stiffness of patients cared in a cardiology clinic.
Introdução
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are one of the main causes of death in the world, being systemic arterial hypertension (HAS) the responsible for over half of the annually unfavorable outcomes. It is a multifactorial condition, frequently asymptomatic, marked by persistent elevation of the blood pressure (BP). Many risk factors contribute for changes in the arterial pressure standards, such as genetics, age, sex, ethnicity and lifestyle. Recent hypotheses show that the sleep and wake patterns and chronotype can be related to arterial stiffness rise, causing increase of the central blood pressure and enabling lesions of target organs (heart, brain, vessels and kidneys).
Objetivo
To analize the association between chronotype, central blood pressure and arterial stiffness of patients cared in a cardiology clinic.
Métodos
It was a quantitative, prospective and cross-sectional study. Participants (n=134) answered questionnaires regarding sociodemographic, clinical, lifestyle and chronotype (Munich Chronotype Questionnaire) data. Central arterial pressure and arterial stiffness were measured by the triple Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) method, using the Arteris AOP® equipment. Linear regression analyses were performed, adjusted for sex and age.
Resultados
Participants were 53,2 years olf, 103 (76,9%) female and 31 (23,1%) male, 78 (59,1%) did not pratice physical activity, 127 (96,2%) were non-smokers, 99 (75%) did not drink alcool and 79 (60,3%) informed CVD in the family. The average of the cardiovascular data were: peripheral BP 129x83mmHg, central BP 119x84mmHg, PWV 7,97 m/s and 24,7 of Augmentation index (AI@75). It was not found association between chronotype and PWV (β = 0,00268; p = 0,863), PASc (β = 0,0166; p = 0,885) and AIx@75 (β = 0,0104; p = 0,907).
Conclusões
Chronotype, central arterial pressure and arterial stiffness of patients were not associated. As arterial stiffness tends to increase over time, it is suggested that further longitudinal studies with a greater number of participants needs to be carried out.
